Zoo Day

We went to the SF Zoo on Saturday because kids get in free for the whole month of August (sweet).  We still had to pay for ourselves, but whatever.  The kids loved it.  I don't think we've been to a zoo since we left DC.  Sadie seemed to like it the best.  She has a thing for giraffes lately, so whenever we saw one she would scream "Mommy, RAFF!"  At one point we saw two giraffes "kissing" and she yelled "Look, Mommy- TWO raffs!"  So adorable.

Are Sadie and Ethan gorilla-size?  Not quite
Ethan got tired of walking by the end of the day, but all in all they had fun.  Now I have to find some activities for Sadie to do while Ethan's in school!

Ethan's Big Day!

My little guy started kindergarten this morning!!  He has been soooo excited to go to "real school."  We picked out his clothes last night, packed his backpack with all his supplies, packed his lunch this morning and set off on the one-block walk to school!  There were cars parked by our house to drop kids off, that's how out of control the traffic was- nuts!  We were like two minutes late (natch), and all the other kids in Ethan's class were lined up against the wall outside his classroom.  I think this was too much for Ethan, as he kind of had a super freak-out moment and wouldn't join them, but after they went inside he was okay.  We found his desk and sat him down, hung his backpack up in his little cubbie, said hi to his teacher (Mrs. Ryan) and took our leave.  He seemed just fine- no tears on anyone's part, yay!  I actually didn't see anyone crying anywhere.

Sadie doesn't seem to be missing her brother at all yet.  Maybe she knows this is her chance to shine.

Sadie Rose, Rock Star

So, it's been sunny here the last few days (which is something of a miracle) and my old pair of sunglasses is all scratched and one of the lenses keeps popping out, so I decided it was time to retire them and get new ones. I had to go to Target anyway, so we headed down the accessories aisle. I am picky so it took me a while to find some I liked. In the meantime, Sadie picked up a pair of neon pink and purple sunglasses and a beaded clutch purse and was strutting her stuff up and down the aisle, much to the amusement of other shoppers. When I told her she couldn't buy either item, it was a meltdown of nuclear proportions. So I decided to compromise and let her buy some kid-sized sunglasses instead. After much deliberation (and an attempt by Mom to get her to buy the oh-so-cute polka-dotted Hello Kitty pair), Sadie settled on pink Barbie glasses. She made me take the tag off the second we pulled away from the cash register and pretty much hasn't taken them off since. I think she even went to bed with them.

Now, Sadie is something of a diva. Those of you who have spent any considerable time in her presence know that she commands attention no matter where she is or what she's doing. So just imagine adding pink Barbie glasses to the equation. Yeah. There's no stopping the posing, the strutting, the "Mom! My GLASSES!" But hey- if you've got it, flaunt it. (at least while she's still a toddler; this rule will no longer apply in ten years)

What you talkin 'bout, Ethan?

Claudia, you will be happy to know that she is in love with this Aunt pillow you made me several years ago. This was her reaction when I asked her to hold it up for the camera. : )

So there you have it: next stop American Idol.

Aye yi yi

Wow, has it really been over a month since I posted last? And here I was thinking I was getting better.

Well, not a whole lot has changed, I guess. Bex is of course getting bigger daily, but the general state of things hasn't changed much. Ethan starts kindergarten a week from today, so that will bring big changes for all of us. He is really excited, mainly because it means he will now get to stay at school for lunch every single day. It's the little things, folks. Sadie is divalicious as always, still obsessed with tights and purses and swimsuits. She's a Miss Universe in training. And my Becca is growing more rotund all the time, which in her case is a good thing. I took her to the doctor this morning for her nine month check-up and she has gained 5.5 pounds in three months- she catapulted into the 50th percentile for weight, up from the 6th back in May. So I am most pleased with that. She sits up and drools like a bloodhound, but we love her anyway. She got her first two teeth last weekend, both at the same time, so maybe that explains all the drool. No matter, she's adorable no matter what.

So I took a whole batch of nine-month photos last Friday and uploaded them all to facebook. I am feeling super lazy and don't want to spend the time it takes to put them here as well, so I will post the link instead: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=486129&id=763685077&l=bc32e59db8 But today she is wearing quite possibly the world's cutest outfit so I had to take a few pictures. My mom gave her this sunsuit waaaaaaaay back in March or something, and I was afraid she would never be chunky enough and the weather would never be warm enough for her to wear it. But alas, stars have aligned and it is simply spectacular here today so I couldn't resist. Enjoy.

I cannot stand it- look at how freaking adorable this outfit is, complete with little jelly sandals!

This is the hilarious diva pose Sadie now assumes when I pull out the camera. I have no idea why. It reminds me of a two-year-old's take on the classic Farrah Fawcett poster. And then there's Becca, who's just fat and happy and makes me want to nibble her chins.

this picture just makes me laugh
