We've probably told this story to most of you but, in early December, we spent several days house hunting. We found several options but a few hours before our flight we saw a posting for a home in Studio City (a small area of Los Angeles just west of Universal Studio and over the hill from Hollywood). We had time to kill so we decided to drive by.
We liked the neighborhood and called the landlord. Turns out she was out of town until tomorrow so we'd have to make due by looking at the outside of the house and peering through the windows. We liked what we saw and gave her a call once we got back to San Francisco. Did she have any pictures of the inside of the house? Turns out she wasn't particularly savvy with a camera or a computer. She had her nephew take a few pictures with him phone which helped but we were interested in seeing more before we committed. "Well, the house was in the movie 'Pulp Fiction' so you could see more of it there." she said.
Wait, what? Sarah had seen the movie but couldn't remember it enough to make a call on the house. Due to the time crunch we were under (we had a couple of other houses that we were considering putting an offer on and we had to let the moving company know where to take our stuff), this led to a frantic search across San Francisco to locate a copy of the movie on a Tuesday night. We located a copy at a Blockbuster, which closed at 10 PM. I planned to drop by after Bishopric meeting but we ran long. So, what's a guy (and girl) to do? YouTube it, of course. Sarah found a clip (which you can view here - mute your sound to avoid the colorful language). So, at 11 PM on a Tuesday we were watching a grainy clip of a mid-nineties movie to try and figure out - among other things - where our couch would go in the living room and what kind of storage the kitchen had.
Long story short (too late?), we are in the house and really enjoy it. I still haven't seen 'Pulp Fiction' but people have been asking for pictures of our new house so I concocted an elaborate plan for us to re-enact scenes from 'Pulp Fiction' in full on costume. Well, I haven't been able to locate good wigs yet (isn't that always the case?) so I instead just took pictures of the house and compared them to scenes in the movie.
Let me give a few qualifiers about the pictures. One is that I did zero cleaning before taking the pictures so this is just in our natural habitat. Second, I had Sarah pose for a couple of pictures. She was making dinner at the time but was nevertheless a team player. That said, don't be surprised if she decides to remove those pictures with her in them.
So, review the pictures and then book your flight to LA for your chance to stay in your own little part of Hollywood. We'd love to have you.
